Along with building websites with Search Engine Optimization in mind (we are a marketing company after all), we also use open-source software to develop sites so that clients are trained on making updates for themselves and not become a hostage of their webmasters. We feel it is very imporant that anyone hiring Motley Media Concepts for web design, get a quick and painless lesson on the structure of their own site!

Why Do I Need a Website?

Did you know that 46% of Internet users depend on a website’s design to judge the credibility of a company? You may be thinking to yourself, “Self, that leaves a whole 54% of Internet users who don’t care that my site looks like crap and doesn’t work! We’re golden.” Well, that also leaves 46% who won’t purchase your services because they think you aren’t credible. That’s a whole lot of business you’re missing out on. And you have to wonder about the 54% — is that really the type of business you want?

The Right & Wrong Reasons for a New Website

WRONG REASONS

I'm tired of the old website

It's been 12 months since our last redesign

A web design contacted you and said you need one

Your site has been finished for six months and Google isn't seeing it

RIGHT REASONS

Increase presence online

Turn prospects into customers

New Corporate Brand or Image

Impact You Business

What makes a site noticed by Google (or the other search engines)

Content, Content, Content (most people care about content more than design). If you have more contant, on average you will have more website visitors and increase your bottomline faster. A 100 page website will beatout a 10 page website most of the time. And a 500 page website is even better. And if some of those web pages are written recently, that's even better. That's not to say that you need a 500 page website if your business just doesn't have that type of content. But the point is, more is better and often updates are key.

Design should be good, but that doesn't mean it needs to be expensive and ellaborate.

Limited flash (flash sites are pretty, but if you are relying search engines to find you, give them something they can see)

“A website allows you to have an online presence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can have the presence of a superstore without the overhead.” TheWebsEye.com, 2007.

Here Comes the Hard Truth About Your Website

Just creating a website isn’t enough anymore to compete on the Internet. Again, you may be thinking to yourself, “Self, my nephew/friend/babysitter can design my site for free; I don’t need to hire anyone.” This may indeed be the case but does your nephew/friend/babysitter know how to create a website that helps your Search Engine Marketing and Optimization out of the box—because whether you know it or not, it’s important. If so, you’ve lucked out, but more than likely, the answer is no and your online presence is in a heap of trouble. Look at it this way, would you have your nephew/friend/babysitter represent you in a meeting? You may as well if they are representing your company online.

Our design team has more than ten years experience creating sites that work and at Motley Media Concepts we pride ourselves on making things “pretty” and usable. Keeping up with emerging web standards and technologies in and of itself is a full-time job and that’s part of what we do so our clients don’t have to. Using current standards such as CSS, XHTML and semantic mark-up (its okay if you don’t know what those things mean, we do) gives you a leg-up from the competition. We understand- it’s a dog eat dog world out there. Let’s be honest, that’s what you want—to beat the competition.
